Mackinlay’s Shackleton Edition Rare Old Highland Malt Whisky

Mackinlay’s Shackleton Edition Rare Old Highland Malt Whisky; This superb blended malt Scotch whisky is a recreation of the infamous whisky that was sent to Antarctica by Sir Ernest Shackleton to assist in his 1907 ‘Nimrod’ expedition. Unfortunately, during 1909 the whiskies were abandoned, along with Shackleton’s goal of reaching the South Pole, and he and his team returned home.

Cut to almost a century later; during 2007 members of New Zealand Antarctic Heritage Trust discovered the crates of whisky, of which 10 bottles were salvageable. In 2011 these bottles were returned home to Scotland for further analysis.

​​​​​​​It was left in the capable hands of Whyte & Mackay master blender, Richard Paterson, to recreate this incredible whisky – whose contents were now over 100 years old. From the findings, whiskies from Dalmore, Glen Mhor and other Speysiders were combined to replicate this remarkable piece of history.
