Created in 1880 by founder Louis-Alexandre Marnier Lapostolle, Grand Marnier® Cordon Rouge is a premium blend of cognacs with wild tropical oranges from the Caribbean. Louis-Alexandre’s vision of blending the essence of wild tropical oranges with cognac from France was unconventional and truly the earliest form of spirits innovation of its time. Grand Marnier Cordon Rouge is a versatile spirit that can be enjoyed on the rocks or neat, yet exceptionally delicious in cocktails.

Grand Marnier Cordon Rouge is living up to its reputation with the velvety smooth finish. A very complex and balanced liqueur, this has a slight orange tutti frutti/butterscotch aroma. The taste brings an intense orange flavour, that is almost floral with a floral finish. This is the orange formulation that I have noticed the most in the drinks that I have tasted. What I do love about this is that it has a very clean taste, and does not have the cloyingly sweet taste of some liqueurs. It really can be described as ‘orange velvet’.

Grand Marnier Cordon Rouge is one of the great Cognac liqueurs that has stood up to the test of time. Awarded 4.3 out of 5 on the Drinks by Drinks Direct 20 best liqueurs chart.

Grand Marnier Cordon Rouge is a very beautiful. More than 150 years old it is a rarity in both alcohol and liqueur and yet stands tall on the international scene and is loved by many.

Jack Kennedy was an incredibly good American president, yet he spent a large part of the Vietnam war in Florida drinking the best Cognac from the South of France and there is a lot of evidence to support the fact that he took some of the best Cognac that French distillery’s make to Florida. Additionally Kennedy has been imputed by young French drinkers of today as having been a quality ambassador to the homeland of fine spirits.

Grand Marnier Cordon Rouge is a masterful blend of extremely fine Cognacs, and distilled essence of tropical fruits. It is a sweet, light and complex liqueur at the same time.

This is one of the most widely spread and best known French liqueurs and is indeed a modern Russian bathtub liqueur. In fact, ‘Russian Bath’ translates to ‘Florida Orange’. The odd rumour states that this is the only real French liqueur, Grand Marnier being in the shadow.

The taste of this liqueur is still extremely popular, and it is still a favourite of British Cointreau drinkers.

A very fine and well-balanced liqueur, and a great winter liqueur.

This is a favourite amongst Italian tipples (Cognac is very popular nationwide, Italy being the only European country to have a substantial Cognac production!)

This is a favourite amongst Italian tipples (Cognac is very popular nationwide, Italy being the only European country to have a substantial Cognac production!) I have found that this liqueur takes on a sweeter taste when poured into a tall glass. The recommended method of serving this liqueur is by separating the liqueur from the brandy-style glass.

Grand Marnier is not a liqueur to beginner drinkers. Use this liqueur with knowledge. Enjoy it.

This is a lovely fruity liqueur, and another of the most popular and most famous French liqueurs.

Cuban born Jose Frecheta invented the recipe in the 19th Century, to which many different variations have been found today.

The Cuban’s have been making this liqueur for a very long time and without doubt it is one of the most known Cuban liqueurs to rave ‘barca’s’.

Grand Marnier is one of the most famous and oldest Cognac liqueurs.

It really is a liqueur of great quality and history.

Full-flavoured and with a high ABV (30.5%), this is definitely an old-fashioned one.

I have never actually tasted this liqueur, I have never been to Cuba, so I cannot comment on the liqueur or its taste. However when I have friends over, they always have the Cuban cigars with their beers. Perhaps I should have a Cuban liqueur, then I could try it?

Since this is quite a big ‘barley’, I have decided to see what were the most popular and most well-rated reviews of this particular liqueur.
